My story on urban art walks for the United Hub travel site earned the 2016 North American Travel Journalists Association Bronze Prize in the Travel Roundup category.

I was a 2015 North American Travel Journalists Association Awards Finalist in these categories: Destination Travel-Domestic Newspaper (WALL STREET JOURNAL story on counterintuitive adventures), Destination Travel-Domestic Magazine (AAA HIGHROADS stories on Salzburg and southern New Mexico) and Photography-Overall Excellence-Print Publication (AAA HIGHROADS photos of Bordeaux).

My profile of AmaWaterways executive Kristen Karst, for PORTHOLE CRUISE MAGAZINE, earned the 2014 North American Travel Journalists Association Bronze Prize in the Personality & Profiles category.

My story on La Paz, Mexico, for SENIOR LIVING MAGAZINE, earned the 2013 North American Travel Journalists Association Silver Prize in the 50+ Travel category.

My story on Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein, for PORTHOLE CRUISE MAGAZINE, earned the 2013 North American Travel Journalists Association Silver Prize in the Personality & Profiles category.

My story on an inn-to-inn biking tour on Germany’s Mosel River, for ENSEMBLE VACATIONS MAGAZINE, earned the 2013 North American Travel Journalists Association Bronze Prize in the Sports & Recreation category.

My story on dune hiking for EXPERIENCE LIFE MAGAZINE earned the “Service Travel Article” silver medal in the 2010 SATW (Society of American Travel Writers) Western Chapter Writing Awards.

My story on marathon-training programs, for RUNNER’S WORLD MAGAZINE, earned the 2008 American Society of Journalists & Authors “Outstanding Service Article” Award.

My SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE MAGAZINE profile of a former Microsoft executive who founded Room to Read, a charity that builds school libraries in Asian villages, earned the 2005 ASJA “Arlene Award” for stories that make a difference. (The story generated more than $100,000 in cash and in-kind contributions by readers.)

My SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE MAGAZINE feature story on the Ventura Art Walk earned the 2005 Bay Area Travel Writers “Honorable Mention” Award for general travel articles.
